Welcome to Back to the 80's Dragon's Lair Dedication Page

Dragon's Lair was released in 1982 by Cinematronics. It did so well that there was soon a Space Ace, Thayer's Quest and finally a Dragon's Lair II. It's spawned an almost cultish following and recent revival by fans and the arcade elite of the 1980's period.

The main difference in this title was the keen use of laserdisk technology. It was entirely new technology at the time and it was taken full advantage of by this heavy hitter. While most others were circling targets around enemy fighters and buildings, this allowed the player to assume the role of a valiant knight on a quest to rescue a damsel in distress.

In movie style, players were able to interact with their personna, Dirk the Daring directing him to move left right forward and backward. Based on that input there were two results, die or win the level. Although the storyline was uni-directional the action was thrilling and the experience enthralling. If and when you managed to win the game, you were celebrated by your fellow arcade comrades as they'd gather around you when they sensed victory. This in and of itself completed the arcade experience and made it a very pleasant one. One could actually feel the lovely Princess Daphne giving you a peck on the cheek.

Here's a link to my Dragon's Lair cabinet. I'm currently restoring it pretty much from scratch.
